2021 mileage: 4560.9

Yesterday I was pretty wiped out, and ended up taking the day off. Today I was eager to get back to it, but we experienced a pretty much daylong strong chance of rain. So I hit the stationary bike this afternoon, and rode 20.1 miles in 1:37, while watching another selection from my list of "Great Baseball Movies"—this one, the 1973 film Bang the Drum Slowly, featuring a young ("then-unknown") Robert DeNiro. The list calls it "One of the best baseball weepies out there." DeNiro, now 78, was 30 at the time the movie was made.

Noted film critic Roger Ebert says of it,"It's not so much a sports movie as a movie about those elusive subjects, male bonding and work in America. That the males play baseball and that sport is their work is what makes this the ultimate baseball movie; never before has a movie considered the game from the inside out."
